![]() Cities in developing countries face fundamental challenges to economic growth, including underdeveloped infrastructure many report that they have yet to supply clean drinking water or safe sanitation to all residents. The results reveal many shared concerns and priorities, but also stark differences. In collaboration with multiple partners, from January through August 2022, the survey gathered insights from 241 leaders of cities in every major geographic region. This working paper provides a first look at the results of Your City Counts, the first-ever Global Survey of City Leaders. It is thus crucial to ensure that cities can foster sustainable and inclusive development. Cities are hubs of innovation and economic opportunity, but they also concentrate human vulnerability, as highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic. ![]() Cities are home to more than half the world's population, and by 2050, the urban population in Asia and Africa alone is expected to grow by some 2 billion people.
